Not only was Kerbal Space Program a long game to complete, it took development a long time to finish too. Officially, development on Kerbal Space Program finished in August 2021, marking a decade since the process began. Development finished on the first game even long after the sequel, Kerbal Space Program 2, had been announced. Now, some fans are hoping it does not take another decade for development to finish, as Kerbal Space Program 2 has been delayed again.

This latest delay comes from Nate Simpson, the creative director of Kerbal Space Program 2. Simpson claims he can finally answer the question of when the game is going to come out, but fans may be disappointed to know that the game will launch for PC in early 2023, not the late 2022 release date that had initially been acknowledged. For console players, the game’s release date is even more vague, as Simpson states that Kerbal Space Program 2 will release after the PC date.
Simpson goes on to say that the team working on Kerbal Space Program 2 is committed to reaching a “high bar” of quality, with “peerless graphics and a rich universe” for players to explore. Much of the community were happy with the focus being put on quality rather than rushing out a mediocre game, with one comment stating that this extra time could make Kerbal Space Program 2 be “the best it can be.” With more than a few recent launches being notably bad or feeling rushed, such as the releases of Battlefield 2042 and Cyberpunk 2077, many gamers are happier seeing a game delayed for quality.
This marks the fourth delay for Kerbal Space Program 2. Back in May 2020, the game was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before getting another lengthy delay by the end of that year. Then, in 2021 the game was slated for a release in the second half of 2022. Some fans have accused Take-Two of sabotaging the Kerbal Space Program 2 development after it was brought in house.
Kerbal Space Program 2 is set for launch in April 2023.
